MiniMonos members adopt another orangutan!

Hey Monkeys! Calypso here with some very EXCITING NEWS! 

As some of you know, after adopting our first orangutan baby called Monti at MiniMonos, we have all been saving up to adopt an orangutan named Kesi from Orangutan Outreach.  The goal was to reach 250 Gold memberships and today we reached that goal! 

The 250th Gold Membership was purchased by a monkey named Magpie! If you see her on MiniMonos Island, you should definitely give her a monkey high-5!

Kesi is very special and very strong-hearted. She had her hand chopped off when plantation workers killed her mother with a machete. Now she is 5 years old and Kesi is an excellent role model for newly arrived orphans, at the forest school, where she lives.

Some of our alpha monkey members may remember that we had a big vote between adopting Kesi or adopting Monti first. Monti was the winner by only 4 VOTES!  If you haven't seen the older posts about this, check them out here:

We're getting a new baby!

From these posts you will see a lot of facts about orangutans and Orangutan Outreach where MiniMonos has adopted them from. If you'd like to see even more facts about them, you should take a look at the Orangutan Outreach website: http://www.redapes.org

Orangutan Outreach supports lots of orangutan adoption organizations so we can find out heaps from them about what is happening around the world with orangutan rescues. 

They also like to keep the adoption process environmentally friendly by handling it all online. This means:

-- No paper, no envelopes, no cardboard adoption certificate 

-- More money for the orangutans and less waste! 

We will get updates about our adopted baby several times a year, with photos and maybe even a video! They also provide a lot of information about what we can do to help save rainforests.

Wow! Now that is a lot of excitement! Thank you, monkeys, thank you so much for helping MiniMonos adopt a second Orangutan from Orangutan Outreach! It's an amazing thing to see how much you monkeys have helped out, and to see how friendly, fun, and giving you all are.

It's Saturday! Woohoo, One of my favorite days of the week! Anyways, My big party is TOMORROW and today i am going to be revealing what all of the clues have meant this past week. First off, Good job to any monkeys who took the time to try to figure out the clues - Hope you had some fun.

MiniMonosTV Special Report about a very special sea creature!

WooHoo!  We're so excited to bring you another MiniMonosTV Special Report!

So on our last report we asked you the question: What other totally awesome sea creature did we see on our day out to Kaikoura?  No-one guessed it on the blog post but some of you did in our last Talk Tuesday!

So here are some research questions for you to answer about the New Zealand (Australsian) Fur Seal.  Everyone who answers them correctly will get a big shout-out in the next Talk Tuesday and on MiniMonosTV!

Banana Splits MiniMonos Style!

Hey monkeys! I hear that I'm going to be making some yummy banana splits with you next Talk Tuesday! I am SO excited - thanks for voting in the poll I put up last week! @(^_^)@

When we make our banana splits, we'll be using as many organic & environmentally friendly ingredients as we can for our banana splits! This means:

• Organic food which doesn't use chemical fertilizers or ingredients
• Food grown or made close to home where possible, so that the environmental impact of transport is as low as possible
• Packaging that wherever possible is environmentally friendly and recyclable
• Food products without palm oil in it (which destroys rainforests and endangers animals like orangutans)

If you would like to create your own tasty Talk Tuesday treat while we make ours, here is a list of ingredients you could use for your banana split!

For the base of your banana split:

• 1 banana (as ripe or unripe as you like)
• 2-3 small scoops of your favorite ice cream or frozen yogurt or sorbet

Things you could use for toppings:

• Whipped cream (or yogurt if you want to be healthy)
• Chocolate sauce
• Fruit sauce (like berry or mango)
• Chopped nuts
• Berries or cherries (fresh or frozen)
• Fruit pieces (fresh or canned)
• Sprinkles
• Anything else you think would be tasty!

You'll also need a bowl, a butter knife (to cut your banana) and a spoon so you can eat it! :-)

Bananatastic party clue #2!

Hopefully most of you didn't struggle with yesterdays clue because I did try to start with a pretty easy one. Today I am releasing the second clue which is a bit tricky, but I'm sure you will figure it out eventually :)

Special report: MiniMonos team goes Whale Watching!

Ok, so you know how we told you last Talk Tuesday, that we went somewhere really special last week?  Here it is!!

Check out what we saw on our amazing day out on the ocean:

A huge thanks to Whale Watch Kaikoura for showing us incredible whales in your amazing back yard! We're so impressed with how you clean up trash in the sea and are very careful not to disturb the whales as they feed, breathe and rest.

So, you know how we said we'd be asking some research questions?  Whoever answers these will get a huge SHOUT OUT in Talk Tuesday tomorrow and MiniMonosTV!  Here are Hatman's questions:

1) The whales in the video are part of the Physeteroidea family. What is interesting about these whales' eyes?

2) What is echolocation and what do these whales use it for?

3) Why were there only male whales in Kaikoura?


We have another totally awesome sea creature to show you in our next special report!  Can you guess what it could be? Clue: this sea creatures' babies are SO CUTE!

Monkey Fact Monday: Emperor Tamarin!

Hey monkeys, Cade77 here with a Monkey Fact Monday post!

Today we will look at the Emperor Tamarin (Manx mentioned them a few weeks ago)! The Emperor Tamarin can be found in Peru, Bolivia, Brazil. These are regions where there are rain forests for them to live in.

It is a little monkey and weighs less than a pound! The fur on the body is gray with a little bit of yellow on the chest fur. Their hands and feet are black and the tail is brown.On their face it looks like they have a mustache that is white!

As Manx pointed out earlier, the mustache is why the Emporer Tamarin has its name - because it looks like a certain German emperor who was named Wilhelm II!

Like many other monkeys, Emporer Tamarins will groom each other, picking bugs out of fur and such. This grooming is a way the members of the group can remain closely bonded with each other.

They also seem to have their own language, with different cries to talk to one another. They like to eat nectar from flowers, bugs, tree sap, and different fruits. These monkeys live up to twenty-four years in the wild! I think they are pretty awesome!

Hey, monkeys! A few Talk Tuesdays ago, we started talking about the possibility of me making different monkey recipes like sneaky Badgerfox did! 

So that got me thinking...what kind of recipes we all could share? I asked a few monkeys on MiniMonos Island to help me come up with some ideas and decided to make a poll to see what the first monkey recipe I make should be! Have a think and submit your vote and whatever wins is what will be first @(^_^)@

Fan Art Friday Special Edition!

I'm the Mystery Monkey this week but of course I can't tell you who is writing this!

Pieman is a great player who shares his love for the Earth with all of MiniMonos. He is also a great friend and is always there when we need him. 

Pieman loves to help new monkeys around and send feedbacks & ideas to help MiniMonos. It is a real pleasure to have him on MiniMonos! :D

Mystery Monkey: How did you find out about MiniMonos?

Pieman: I found out about MiniMonos from my good friend Limey.

Mystery Monkey: What is your most favorite thing on MiniMonos?

Pieman: My favorite thing on MiniMonos is meeting new monkeys and playing some MiniGames :)

Mystery Monkey: What is your favorite MiniMonos game right now?

Pieman: My favorite game on MiniMonos is Monkey Fist because it's very competitive and you never know what move Wu Lee will pick which makes it such a fun game! :)

Monkey Fact Monday: White-headed Capuchin!

Hi, Monkeys! Minimomo here again! Are you ready for another awesome Monkey Fact Monday?! I know I am!

Last week while I was trying to find a monkey to research about I came across this monkey called the White-headed Capuchin.

It's also called the White-faced Capuchin or White-throated Capuchin! As you can see from the picture, this is because of their fur coloring around their head and shoulders!

This monkey is found in Northern and Central South America in forests there. They are known for living very long lives in monkey years! White-headed Capuchins can live for about 46 years (in captivity), but the oldest known monkey was 54 years old.

Some really interesting facts about them are that they pollinate plants in the forests where they live while they eat and also help the plants by scattering seeds! They are very important for the health of their environment. :-)

They are also known to use tools like stones and sticks in order to get their food or to defend or protect themselves or other monkeys against intruders. White-headed Capuchins are very, very smart monkeys! You might even recognize this kind of monkey from a popular television show. Do you know which one I'm talking about?

Exciting MiniMonos Updates!

Hey Monkeys! MiniJghRocks and Minimomo here with the news of the new updates! They're pretty awesome! First off, we have:

Einstein's Lab! :D

Right now, the inside is a sneak peek for gold members only, but everyone can go on the outside! :p Here's what it looks like:

The next major update is, of course, the new stage at Bimini Rocks! Its super cool, with two giant screens that project the stage! On your map, the Bimini Rocks button now has music notes on it!

It is extremely cool, and run by Delta, the newest NPC to appear on Minionos. When you talk to her, she tells you what will be coming to Bimini Rocks:
 
Pretty cool! Music coming to MiniMonos! That's going to be AMAZING! :D

Next, we have a new catalog! Here's what it looks like:  
If you didn't notice, this is the LAST TIME Issue 1 will be there! :O Better get the items from that first catalog before they're gone!

One of the BIGGEST things in the update is...SERVERS!!!!

Right now, there are only two servers - Star Tiger and Avenger, but we're sure plenty more to come in the future :D  
The new servers were added because of how many monkeys have joined MiniMonos! It's now 28,000 Monkeys! :D It's so awesome!
